Sixth annual Krispy Kreme Challenge raises over $40K for N.C. Children's Hospital on Feb. 6

Special thanks to everyone who participated in Saturday's Krispy Kreme Challenge. Thanks to your support, the student organizers at N.C. State University raised more than $40K for N.C. Children's Hospital while also building local and national awareness of this great institution. Please visit the N.C. Children's Hospital YouTube page for great footage of the opening ceremony and View the "From the Starting Line" video now! starting line excitement, or visit the Facebook fan page to view photos.

The Krispy Kreme Challenge is N.C. State University's newest (and perhaps most infamous) tradition. Beginning at the N.C. State Bell Tower, challengers run 2 miles to the Krispy Kreme store located on Peace Street in Raleigh and, after downing a full dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts, must run the 2 miles back. All in one hour.

This year's sixth annual K2 Challenge drew more than 6K runners from all across the country to compete in this one-of-a-kind sports competition that's captured the attention of both Sports Illustrated and ESPN.

Children's Promise funds 26 innovative programs and family support initatives through 2010 Promise Grants

The Promise Grants program provides an opportunity for all N.C. Children's Hospital employees involved in the direct care of children to apply for financial support for initiatives left unfunded by clinical revenues but necessary to offering Children's Hospital patients and families the best experience possible. Funding comes from unrestricted monetary gifts made to the N.C. Children's Promise, such as donations made during the annual radio/telethon.

Grant applications for 2010 increased by 43 percent over last year (climbing to 46 applications from 32 in 2009), making the award review committee's selection process quite challenging. In the end, the Children's Promise proudly announced 26 applicants will receive funding during this grant cycle. Click here to see the full list of programs and initiatives that are being supported thanks to your financial support.
