The N.C. Children's Promise Radiothon/Telethon is UNC Health Care's largest single fundraising event each year. Held in conjunction with Curtis Media Group and Time Warner Cable, this signature fall event raises funds to benefit children’s programs and further support the continuation of excellence within the medical and surgical programs housed at North Carolina Children’s Hospital.
North Carolina Children's Hospital at UNC is a nationally recognized leader in cystic fibrosis and other respiratory disorders, hemophilia, sickle cell disease, cancer, heart disease and trauma, including severe burns. We also specialize in treating children with gastrointestinal disorders, infectious diseases and birth defects. It is our commitment to treat each child with the same level of excellence, regardless of their families' abilities to pay.
We are very proud of the center of excellence that we have become and thank you for taking an active role in making our community even better for the children and families we serve. 2009's 8th annual N.C. Children's Promise Radiothon/Telethon raised more than $1,000,000a total made all the more poignant by the economic hardships that many currently face. We'll be back to raise more in 2010, so please mark your calendars now for Thursday, November 18, 2010. Listen. Watch. Pledge!

What's the annual N.C. Children's Promise Radiothon/Telethon really about? Well, it's about North Carolina Children's Hospital's patients and the people who love them, of course. There's no better way to understand that than to see their own personal stories of courage.

Jonah Parker is not your average kid. The 7-year-old was diagnosed with Burkitt's lymphoma this summer, and treatments meant delaying his birthday party. When he finally got to celebrate, he asked for lots of gifts, but not for himself. He donated them all to the Children's Hospital. |

Young Boy Fights Heart Issues from First Days of Life
Dawhon Hopkins was born with a congenital heart defect and had his first heart surgery at N.C. Children's Hospital when he was just one day old. He had a second surgery at the Children's Hospital at age 1 and has since made improvements beyond expectations. |
Special thanks to theses patients and their families for their willingness to offer a glimpse into their personal struggles and triumphs. Their stories, recorded in October and November 2009, both enrich our lives and remind us why we're here.
Thank you, too, to News 14 Carolina and Courtney Potter at UNC News Services for producing these stories.
